The Cellular Biology and Anatomy Program (CBA) is for students interested in developmental biology, cellular biology, and disease mechanisms. The research spectrum in CBA ranges from polarity in model organisms to molecular mechanisms of protection, repair, and regeneration in many different diseases related to kidney, muscle, bone, aging, and vision. Through elective course options, students have the opportunity to gain a solid understanding of cellular and molecular biology, histology, and related technologies. In the lab, students learn to master advanced techniques and explore creative modern approaches to fundamental biomedical questions.
The mission of CBA is high-quality research training and education for all our graduate students. We collaborate across campus and worldwide to create basic and translational research initiatives to inspire our students to be the next generation of scientists and physician-scientists. For those interested in pursuing academic careers that combine research and teaching, students not only build upon their research experience in the lab but also are afforded opportunities for teaching medical students (e.g. serving as teaching assistants in histology, anatomy, and neuroanatomy/neuroscience classes).
With a PhD in Cellular Biology and Anatomy from the Medical College of Georgia and The Graduate School at Augusta University, our graduates have gone on to faculty research and teaching positions at medical schools and careers in clinical science departments and health science professional schools. Other graduates have entered private, government, and industrial research laboratories and foundations.

More about Student Ambassadors
"I chose CBA because of the great collaborative environment. I believe this will be very essential in my next steps after graduate school. Also, all the faculty here are always supportive and willing to help students overcome challenging situations."
"Do not be afraid to ask questions! Some of the best conversations happen by asking a question no matter how simple it may be. I am always learning something new in different disciplines whether from our journal clubs or seminars. I am always starting conversations with my friends by saying 'Did you know?"
