An Academic Advisor ...
- Assists students in pursuing his/her educational goals by facilitating access to the
full range of learning opportunities and services available at Augusta University.
- Has a thorough understanding of the current curriculum, institutional requirements,
course sequences and general education requirements.
- Has knowledge of the specific requirements for their assigned major(s).
- Understands the current institutional policies and procedures and is familiar with
current institutional support services, special programs, and cocurricular activities
for accurate and appropriate referrals.

Where Undergraduates Begin
The Academic Advisement Center at Augusta University primarily serves the following
student populations:
- Dual Enrollment Students
- First and Second Year Students (0-59 credit hours)
- Transfer Students (0-59 credit hours)
- Pre-Admit Programs (i.e. Pre-Social Work, Allied Health Programs, Pre-Nursing, Pre-Education,
etc.)
- Senior Citizen Audit Students
Generally, students transition to their major department upon earning 60 credit hours.
If a student transfers to Augusta University with 60+ credit hours, the student will
be advised by their major department. Post-Baccalaureate and Graduate Students are
also advised by their major department. Prospective students can communicate with
the Office of Undergraduate Admissions regarding interest in the university and degrees offered at Augusta University.
