The Center for Learning and Academic Support Services (CLASS) reflects Augusta University's commitment to student learning, persistence, and academic achievement. While tutoring remains a core service, CLASS provides a comprehensive network of academic support including peer coaching, embedded tutoring, academic recovery initiatives, workshops, consultations, and early intervention programs.

CLASS offers comprehensive academic support services including tutoring, Supplemental Instruction (SI), academic coaching, workshops, Early Alert Intervention support, student-athlete academic support, peer coaching, and student success programming.

Whether students are seeking academic support, developing stronger study strategies, preparing for exams, or strengthening their confidence and academic habits, CLASS is committed to helping every student succeed.

About CLASS

The Center for Learning and Academic Support Services (CLASS) is Augusta University’s centralized academic support and student success unit dedicated to strengthening student learning, persistence, retention, and academic achievement.

Formerly known as the Academic Success Center (ASC), CLASS reflects the university’s continued commitment to providing comprehensive academic support services that are proactive, accessible, innovative, and student-centered.

CLASS partners collaboratively with students, faculty, staff, Athletics, and campus departments to create a culture of academic support and success across Augusta University.

CLASS serves undergraduate, graduate, professional, transfer, dual enrollment, and student-athlete populations through individualized and group-based academic support services.

The mission of the Center for Learning and Academic Support Services (CLASS) is to empower students through academic support, learning strategies, collaborative engagement, and intentional intervention that promotes academic achievement, persistence, and lifelong learning.

Tutoring Services

CLASS provides free tutoring services to Augusta University students across a variety of academic disciplines and course levels. Tutoring is available for many high-demand and historically challenging courses including Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics, Physics, Spanish, Economics, and more.

Tutoring services are designed to:

  • Reinforce course concepts
  • Improve academic confidence
  • Support exam preparation
  • Strengthen problem-solving skills
  • Encourage independent learning

Students may access tutoring through:

  • Individual appointments
  • Group tutoring
  • Drop-in tutoring
  • Online tutoring support
  • Supplemental Instruction sessions

 

Supplemental Instruction (SI)

Supplemental Instruction (SI) is a peer-led academic support model designed to help students succeed in historically challenging courses.SI Leaders attend class sessions, collaborate with faculty, and facilitate regularly scheduled study sessions focused on: Course concepts | Study strategies | Collaborative learning | Exam preparation | Academic accountability

SI sessions are interactive and designed to strengthen understanding while helping students develop stronger academic habits and learning strategies. SI support is available in selected high-risk and gateway courses.

 

Academic Coaching

Academic Coaching provides individualized support focused on helping students strengthen academic behaviors, learning strategies, and personal accountability. Academic Coaching is designed to help students become more independent, effective, and confident learners. Academic Coaching may assist students with:

  • Time Management
  • Organization
  • Goal Setting
  • Study Strategies
  • Test Preparation
  • Motivation and Accountability
  • Learning Strategies
  • Academic Confidence

 

Online Academic Support

CLASS offers virtual academic support services to ensure students can access assistance regardless of location or schedule. Online services may include: Virtual tutoring | Virtual academic coaching | Online workshops | Supplemental Instruction support | Academic success resources | Study strategy support

Early Alert Intervention Support

Beginning Fall 2026, Augusta University transitioned from scheduled progress report campaigns to a continuous Early Alert Intervention process. Faculty may submit an Early Alert at any point during the semester once academic concerns are identified. Examples may include: Attendance concerns, Missing assignments, Low exam or quiz grades, Lack of engagement, Risk of failure, Academic integrity concerns and Recommendation for academic support.

Once an Early Alert is submitted, CLASS initiates outreach and intervention to help connect students with appropriate support services as early as possible. The goal of Early Alert Intervention is to provide proactive support before academic concerns escalate. Support may include:

  • Academic Coaching
  • Tutoring
  • Supplemental Instruction
  • Study strategy support
  • Workshops
  • Faculty office hour referrals
  • Additional campus resources

 

Student-Athlete Academic Support

CLASS partners collaboratively with Athletics to provide proactive academic support services for student-athletes. Student-athletes receiving Early Alert Intervention support may be assigned Academic Peer Coaches to assist with accountability, academic tracking, and connection to campus resources. CLASS works collaboratively with Athletics personnel while maintaining one centralized institutional support process designed to support student success.

Support services may include: Academic coaching • Peer coaching • Tutoring • Supplemental Instruction • Study Hall support • Time management assistance • Academic accountability meetings • Early Alert Intervention support

Student Success Programs

STRIDE Program

STRIDE (Success Through Resilience, Innovation, Determination, and Effort) is a student success initiative designed to support incoming students enrolled in rigorous academic pathways. STRIDE includes workshops, peer support, academic coaching, and intentional engagement opportunities designed to support persistence and retention. The program focuses on:

  • Academic transition support
  • Study strategies
  • Time management
  • Academic resilience
  • Community and belonging
  • Student success habits

CLAS 1301 Recovery Course

CLAS 1301 is an academic recovery course designed to support students transitioning from academically challenging gateway courses. The course is designed to help students strengthen academic habits and prepare for future success in rigorous coursework. The course focuses on:

  • Metacognitive development
  • Learning strategies
  • Academic resilience
  • Time management
  • Study skills
  • Academic recovery planning
