Drop for Non-Payment

Each semester, students who have not paid their balance or set up a payment plan by the university deadlines below are automatically removed from all of their classes. This is called a "drop for non-payment." If this happens to you, your seat in each course is released to other students and you'll need to re-register, with no guarantee your original schedule will be available.

What you need to do:

To keep from being dropped for non-payment, complete one of the following by the payment deadline:

1. Pay Tuition & Fees

Log into POUNCE, pay in person, or mail in your payment.

1. Pay Tuition & Fees

2. Enroll in a Payment Plan

Sign up for the Nelnet installment plan and pay the first installment by the deadline.

2. Enroll in a Payment Plan

If you have been dropped:

1. Check your AU email.

If you're dropped, you'll receive an email notification from the Office of the Registrar.

2. Re-register in POUNCE.

You can re-register during the drop/add period, or complete a Registration Exception Form and bring it to the Registrar's Office after drop/add. Your original classes are not guaranteed, and availability depends on open seats.

3. Pay your balance immediately.

If you re-register during the drop/add period, payment is due the same day by 5:00 PM. If you re-register during late registration, payment is due at the time of registration. In either case, your classes will be dropped again if payment is not received on time.

Need help with something specific?

Using Financial Aid or VA Benefits?

Contact Financial Aid or Military & Veteran Services before the deadline to confirm your aid covers your full balance. Pay any remaining balance separately via POUNCE.

Waiting on an in-state tuition decision?

Pay the out-of-state amount before the deadline. You'll be reimbursed if your status changes. Apply well in advance so a decision can be made before the deadline.

Waitlisted for a course?

Waitlisted courses don't count toward your enrolled credits or current charges. If you're added in, pay within 10 days of the charge appearing on your account.

TAP recipient?

TAP does not cover all charges. Review your POUNCE balance carefully before the payment deadline and pay any remaining amount to avoid being dropped.

Completing an insurance waiver?

Submit your waiver well before the payment deadline so the credit can be applied to your account. If it's still pending, pay the insurance charge and you'll be reimbursed once the waiver is approved.

Made a partial payment?

Partial payments don't prevent a drop. You must either pay in full or enroll in the Nelnet payment plan and pay the first installment.
