Institutional Effectiveness (IE) provides project management and facilitation services, project management training, Prosci change management training, and mentoring services to units across Augusta University. Our professional project managers apply industry best practices and standards to manage large-scale projects and promote consistent, effective practices across the university. All projects, services, tools, templates, and processes used by IE are guided by the Project Management Institute’s (PMI) Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK), ensuring a structured and proven approach. For change management, IE utilizes the Prosci's change management methodology, a globally recognized framework for managing organizational change.
IE's facilitation services support units by providing a high-level administration process that engages stakeholders, facilitates discussions, and advances progress towards identified university goals. These services are provided to large-scale efforts which do not typically meet the IE project management criteria, but still require a process driver to ensure success.
IE provides training to units in project management processes, tools, and templates based on industry best practices and standards. This trains others to utilize project management best practices to plan, manage, and execute projects within their own unit.
Project Management is the application of knowledge, skills, tools, and techniques to achieve a set of objectives. These skills, tools, and techniques can be used to manage projects, initiatives, facilitations, and more.
The Project Management Institute’s (PMI) Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK) and its collection of processes, best practices, terminologies, and guidelines are accepted as standards within the project management industry. IE actively utilizes the PMBOK as a guide in planning, managing, monitoring, and executing projects. This, in turn, allows IE to adjust our practices and terminologies to best fit the needs of Augusta University.

IE provides project management support for projects that involve multiple units covered by the university's mission.
At AU, there can also be departmental projects which are projects internal to the unit. These projects can require external resources to complete tasks, but they do not involve multiple units across the university. IE does not provide project management services for departmental projects, but we do offer project management training and mentoring services to those charged with managing departmental projects.
A facilitation is an administrative process which provides high-level assistance in the coordination, meeting management, and documentation of activities involving multiple units/groups across the university. This service has a defined timeframe.
The project manager works with the facilitation leader to record and report outcomes and to facilitate discussions in order to ensure all stakeholders are involved.

Project Management Mentorship/Coaching may incorporate training when needed, but its primary focus is on real-time application of project management principles, tools, and techniques within an active project. Over the course of scheduled sessions, the coach/mentor serves as a guide, sounding board, and strategic advisor, helping the mentee navigate challenges and refine their approach while the mentee remains in the role of project manager leading the initiative and growing confidence and competence in project management tools and techniques.
