General Admissions Information

■  Augusta University is an Affirmative Action/Equal Opportunity Educational Institution. No person shall, on the grounds of age, disability, gender, national origin, race, religion, sexual orientation or status as a Vietnam Era Veteran, be excluded from participation in, or be otherwise subjected to discrimination in any educational program, activity or facility.

■  The 2024 incoming class of 304 was selected from approximately 3,243 applications. Although admission is competitive, in concert with academics the Admissions Committee uses a holistic review process to select the applicants best-qualified to study medicine.

■  Preference is given to applicants with a baccalaureate degree in a regionally accredited* college prior to entering the Medical College of Georgia at Augusta University. The minimum requirement is 90 semester hours or 135 quarter hours. A limited number of highly competitive, non-degree applicants may be accepted each year. The non-degree college must be acceptable as the equivalent of the first three years leading to the bachelor of science or art in a regionally accredited* college of arts and sciences.

■  Applicants enrolled in a graduate-degree program must complete all requirements of their graduate degree prior to enrolling in medical school. Requests to withdraw from a graduate-degree program will be reviewed on a case

■  There is no separate admissions process for the AU/GSU Medical Partnership Campus . All applicants applying through the Early Decision Program or the Regular Decision Program to the Medical of Georgia at Augusta University will complete one application through the American Medical College Application Service (AMCAS). A campus preference request will be sent via email to all students after an acceptance decision. While student preference is strongly considered, there is no guarantee any applicant will be assigned to his/her/their preferred campus. Early decision accepted students will be guaranteed their campus preference but will not be guaranteed a campus change request. Applicants will be notified of their campus assignment prior to matriculation. Note: Students on the Augusta Campus may be assigned to a regional clinical campus during clinical years.

■  Preference is given to Georgia residents. Applicants for admission may be classified as residents of only one state. Applicants offered admission as a Georgia resident are expected to maintain Georgia resident status in American Medical College of Application Service records. Applicants who claim Georgia residency must make claim on their AMCAS application no later than November 1st. No residency changes are permitted afterward. Georgia residents who change their legal state of residence designation with AMCAS after being accepted at MCG will have their acceptance withdrawn and their applications for admission reviewed for admission as a non-resident of Georgia.

■  Legacy does not affect interview or admission decisions.

■   Given the highly competitive nature of the applicant pool, applicants with GPAs less than 3.0 or an MCAT score of less than 496, are not considered competitive for interview.

■   Students in selective or graduate programs whose academic endeavors were interrupted by their military service will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.

2022 White Coat Ceremony

Only Georgia residents can apply for MCG's Early Decision program.

Applicants competitive for the Early Decision program will have an MCAT score of 509 or higher and will have a total GPA of 3.7*

*total GPAs between 3.65 and 3.69 will be rounded to 3.7 and above

Applicants must submit their AMCAS American Medical College Application Service applications between May 30, 2025 and August 1, 2025. All applications and official transcripts must be received in the AMCAS office by August 1, 2025 to be considered under the Early Decision program. Transcripts must arrive to the AMCAS office directly from the college’s/university’s Registrar’s Office. All application supplemental documents, which are items required in addition to the AMCAS application, should be returned one week after receipt and must be in the application file by August 15, 2025. Supplemental documents include all residency documentation, required course listings, and other specifically requested documents.

EDP applicants must have taken the MCAT by June 28, 2025. Early Decision Program applicants are generally notified of their acceptance by the second week in September, but are guaranteed notification of their acceptance by October 1, 2025.

Regular Decision

The Regular Decision application process allows applicants, both in-state and out-of-state, to apply to multiple medical schools.

Applicants must submit their AMCAS applications between May 30, 2025 and November 1, 2025.  All applications and official transcripts must be received in the AMCAS office by November 1st to be considered for the Regular Decision program.  The Medical College of Georgia at Augusta University must be listed on the AMCAS application as a school of application by the November 1st deadline.  Official transcripts from U.S. and Canadian post-secondary institutions must be received by November 15, 2025.  Transcripts must arrive to the AMCAS office directly from the college’s/university’s Registrar’s Office.  All application supplemental documents, which are items required in addition to the AMCAS application, should be returned two weeks after receipt and must be in the application file by December 1, 2025.  These items include all residency documentation, required course listings, and other specifically requested documents.

Regular Decision Program applicants must have taken the MCAT by September 13, 2025.

*Accredited by the appropriate regional agency for colleges and schools, i.e., the equivalent of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.
