The 2025-2026 Application Cycle

Applications for the Medical College of Georgia's Class of 2030 officially open through AMCAS on Wednesday, May 1, 2025. AMCAS application submission will begin on May 28, 2025. Students complete a centralized medical school application through AMCAS by visiting: www.aamc.org/amcas.

*Given the highly competitive nature of the applicant pool, applicants with GPAs less than 3.0, or MCAT scores less than 496, are not considered competitive for interview.

You must be either a U.S. citizen or a permanent resident of the U.S. with a valid, permanent resident card to be offered acceptance.

Primary & Secondary Applications

MCG participates in the American Medical College Application Service or (AMCASAmerican Medical College Application Service), a centralized application service administered by the AAMCAssociation of American Colleges. Applications for the Medical College of Georgia's Class of 2030 officially open through AMCAS on Wednesday, May 1, 2025 and submission begins on May 28, 2025.

Applications will be processed in the AMCAS office then forwarded to the medical school(s) of the applicant’s choice. Upon receipt of the student’s application from AMCAS, MCG will forward an application supplement (secondary application) to the applicants approved for further consideration. MCG does not charge an additional application fee in addition to the AMCAS fee. MCG will download all letters of recommendation from AMCAS.

AMCAS applications for admission are available on the AAMC’s website. This website provides application instructions and more information regarding the application process. The new AMCAS experience type Social Justice/Advocacy is not a requirement for MCG admissions consideration.

Prerequisites

Biology

One academic year of Biology or Zoology with lab during college.

Chemistry

One academic year of Chemistry during college. One semester must be organic chemistry and one semester must be biochemistry.

Physics

One academic year of physics with two semesters of lab. AP credit may be used to place out of this requirement.

English

One academic year of English. English, English-based Composition, Writing, Literature, or Communication are acceptable; Humanities courses may be used to meet one semester of this requirement. AP credit may be used to place out of this requirement.

Statistics

One semester of Probability, Statistics, Biostatistics, or equivalent. Statistics, Probability or Biostatistics courses that have a STAT or MATH course number will automatically meet this requirement. Other courses that have a different prefix must be approved as equivalent by the undergraduate institution where the course was taken through the Pre-Med or Pre-Health advisor. If such an advisor is not available, the approval may be granted by any Math or Science chair at the institution. AP credit may be used to place out of this requirement.

Additional Coursework Info

  • All non-U.S. coursework must be evaluated by Josef A. Silny & Associates, a company that offers foreign credential evaluation and translation. You should have a University and Post-secondary Course-by-Course evaluation completed and sent directly from the Silny office to the MCG Office of Admissions for review. Please be sure that your evaluation includes the U.S. equivalency of the degree you earned at your international university.
  • Applicants enrolled in a graduate-degree program must complete all requirements of their graduate degree prior to enrolling in medical school.

*Accredited by the appropriate regional agency for colleges and schools, i.e., the equivalent of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.  Check out the Council for Higher Education Accreditation for more information.

Notes Regarding Prerequisites

  • Letter grades are preferred. Pass/Fail is acceptable if the coursework was completed at a regionally accredited institution.
  • Students must have completed, or be enrolled in, all prerequisite courses by January of the planned matriculation year. Special permission may be granted on a case-by-case basis by the Office of Admissions to complete the courses in a spring or summer semester, ending no later than July of the planned matriculation year.

Letters of Recommendation

All applicants are required to submit at least three, current letters of recommendation through AMCAS. The Admissions Committee will not review an applicant's file without having received all three current letters of recommendation. These can include letters from science professors or a Pre-Health Advisory committee (if applicable) and/or personal references. It is strongly recommended that one of the personal recommendations comes from a physician who can speak toward the student's clinical exposure/experience.

Clinical Exposure

The MCG Admissions Committee expects applicants to complete a minimum of 200 hours of clinical experience. Clinical exposure includes direct observation of or interaction with patients across a variety of healthcare settings. These experiences are critical for helping applicants gain a realistic understanding of the practice of medicine, develop comfort in clinical environments, and also confirm their commitment to a medical career.

Additional Admissions Considerations

The MCG admissions committee evaluates each applicant holistically, in the context of their file. We adhere to the AAMC experience, attributes, and metrics model for admission to qualified students who align with MCG’s mission.

  1. AAMC Premed Comptencies for Entering Medical Students: The 17 Premed Competencies for Entering Medical Students outline the key qualities and skills expected of all applicants admitted to medical school. The AAMC carefully identified these competencies as being critical towards both a successful medical education and a career in medicine.
  2. MCG Core Values
  3. Exhibit Passion for Medicine: Applicants must show a genuine interest and commitment to the healthcare field. For medical school applicants, demonstrating this passion involves actively engaging in meaningful experiences, such as volunteering, clinical shadowing, research, and community service. As part of the holistic review process, the MCG Admissions Committee looks for evidence that these activities are thoughtful, consistent, and reflective of the applicant’s motivation to become a compassionate and knowledgeable physician.
  4. Demonstrate Commitment to Practice Medicine in the State of Georgia
  5. Fit with MCG mission & culture
  6. Multiple Mini Interview (MMI) Scores
  7. Service to Others: The MCG Admissions Committee expects that applicants pursue service opportunities as well, as it reflects an applicant's holistic commitment to compassion, empathy, and desire to make a positive impact on the community, all of which are qualities that are essential to their success as a physician.

Additional Matriculation Requirements

Technical Standards

Physicians and medical students must possess physical, cognitive, emotional, interpersonal, and communication skills to complete their medical education and proficiently practice medicine. These abilities and characteristics are defined as technical standards. In conjunction with academic standards established by the faculty of the Medical College of Georgia, these standards are required for admission, matriculation, continuation, and graduation. Delineation of technical standards is required for the accreditation of U.S. medical schools by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education.

Immunization Requirement

The USG Board of Regents requires each student attending classes at any of Georgia’s public institutions, including the Medical College of Georgia, to meet established immunization requirements. All students must provide appropriate documentation that they have fulfilled immunization requirements prior to the start of their school semester. Additional details regarding this requirement can be found through Student Health Services.
