Our Bachelor of Science in Special Education (BSEd) is designed to prepare compassionate and skilled educators who can make a profound difference in the lives of students with diverse learning needs, from Pre-Kindergarten through 12th grade. We go beyond theory, providing you with the practical experience and specialized knowledge necessary to create inclusive and supportive learning environments.

Application Deadlines

In order for an individual to be considered the online application and all materials must be received on or before these deadlines.

Admission Requirements

Special Education Traditional  

Formal admission into the educator preparation programs is separate from admission to Augusta University. Only candidates who satisfy the following criteria will be considered for admission into the BSEd in Special Education Educator Preparation Program:

  • Completion of areas A-F of your track sheet. All candidates must complete EDUC 2110, 2120, and 2130 before entering the program.
  • A minimum GPA of 2.5 (Regents) or a GPA of 2.5 (Overall) as a transfer candidate into Augusta University.
  • Successful completion of the Educator Ethics – Program Entry Exam (350). This assessment is not scored but must be completed for program admission. In order to take the ethics assessment, create or update your MyPSC account on the GaPSC website, choose Augusta University as your program provider and select option 7 as your reason for testing. In one to two days, you will receive a testing link form ETS. This will allow you to both pay and complete the assessment.
  • Candidates will not be eligible for acceptance until they have submitted the Pre-Service Certification application available from the Augusta University Certification Office in UH 345.
  • A record free of criminal and disciplinary problems.

Track Sheet

Special Education for Current Paraprofessionals  

  • 60+ credits complete required
  • Institutional or Transfer GPA Requirement of 2.5
  • Educator Ethics Program Entry Exam (#350). Assessment is not scored but must be completed.
  • Pre-Service Certification Application – available from AU Certification Office UH 345.
  • Background Check - Record free of criminal and disciplinary problems.
  • Content Area Concentration Identified and 6 hours transferred.
  • (6 hours taken pre-admit 1000 or 2000 level, 3 additional hours taken at AU 3000 or 4000 level)

Once a candidate is accepted, he/she will meet with an advisor to create a plan of study for the remainder of the program courses and graduation.  

17 total classes (including EDTD 2011, elective, and student teaching)

All courses will be full-term and online. Student teaching will occur in a district school.

LA Content Certification will need on ENGL course ( 3 courses - 9 credit hours) for content/instruction courses.

SS Content Certification will need one SS course (3 credit hours) and a combo of ENGL and SS ( 3 courses- 9 credit hours) for content/ instruction courses.

Elective – could be transferred or could take recommended LA or SS

EDTD 2011 – Ed Tech – needs to be taken if a comparable course doesn’t transfer.

License Disclosure Statement

Federal Regulation 34 CFR 668.43 (a) (5) (v) and 34 CFR 66.43 (c) require disclosure by all educational institutions regarding educational requirements for programs leading to professional licensure or certification.  Please carefully review the information provided in the program's disclosure statement for the BSEd in Special Education.
