Quick Start Guide 

DUO (Multifactor Authentication)

Duo multifactor authentication is required to access AU systems, apps and devices. All students must register for Duo to add an extra layer of security. DUO (Multifactor Authentication)

Tech Resources for Students 

Laptop Recommendations

Before purchasing a new laptop, please review the general student laptop recommendations and preferred pricing available from Dell and Apple. These configurations are chosen to provide the computing power needed for Augusta University’s general education curriculum and graduate program courses.

We also recommend checking with your specific program of study for any additional technology requirements. For technical questions or assistance, please contact our IT Help Desk or visit a walk-up IT Service Desk.

Equipment Check-Out

Currently enrolled students may borrow audio, video, and imaging equipment and cables for class-related work from the IT Help Desk in the Reese Library. You will need your JagCard when checking out equipment. The Reese Library is the only location that has equipment for lending. 

Virtual Meeting Platforms

Microsoft Teams lets you chat, meet, call, and collaborate with classmates in real time, all in one place. It supports file sharing, communication, and group work, but does not integrate with D2L.

Zoom  is a video conferencing platform used for virtual classes and meetings. It integrates with Brightspace/D2L to support online and hybrid learning.

Communications/Information 

JagAlert is AU’s emergency notification system. Students are automatically enrolled in JagAlert and receive health and safety alerts by text, email, and phone. 

MyAugusta is your go-to app for campus news, emergency updates, health resources, and more—all in one place.

Free or Discounted Software

Augusta University has several campus agreements to provide some of the most popular software to students free of charge or at a greatly reduced price. Software includes Microsoft Office, Mathematica, SAS JMP Pro, and more. Security Tools are also available at a low cost to students. Review our Approved Software List. 

The College of Education and Human Development majors use Anthology Portfolio for students to create electronic portfolios to showcase their work in a portable format.

Banner / POUNCE

POUNCE is your go-to for registration, course info, financial aid, student accounts, and more. Banner is the main student system at Augusta University.

D2L / Brightspace

Use D2L to access class materials, videos, discussion boards, grades, and more. Log in with your JagID and password. For course-specific questions, reach out to your instructor first.

JagTrax

JagTrax is a degree planning tool that helps you and your advisor track your progress toward graduation. It shows what you’ve completed and what’s left. Note: You’ll still need to see your academic advisor to get registration access.

Handshake

Handshake is AU’s platform for jobs and internships. Search thousands of opportunities, schedule career coaching, and RSVP for events to help you build your future career.

Cybersecurity 

 

Cybersecurity is a top priority at AU. If you see something, say something. Our Cyber Defense team works 24/7 to protect your personal data and university systems. If you notice anything unusual or suspicious, don’t wait, report it right away.

Use the cyber hotline to report:

  • Lost or stolen AU credentials
  • Lost or stolen devices with access to AU systems
  • Suspected malware or viruses
  • Computers or devices behaving strangely

Email 72CYBER@augusta.edu if you clicked on something suspicious or received a sketchy email in your AU inbox.

Stay alert. Stay secure. Protect yourself and your campus.

Cybersecurity Tips:

  • Use strong passwords: At least 10 characters with letters, numbers, and symbols. Don’t reuse old ones.

  • Use Duo MFA: Required for AU systems—adds an extra layer of protection.

  • Enable updates: Install software updates right away to keep devices secure.

  • Watch for phishing: Don’t fall for emails that urge quick action, contain errors, or come from unknown senders.

  • Think before you click: Avoid suspicious links and attachments.

 

As a student, when can I expect access to an academic system?

Box Within 24 hours of course registration. Immediately upon graduation.
Campus Labs Within 24 hours of course registration. Immediately upon graduation.
Echo360 After clicking a link from LMS to an Echo 360 course. Three years after graduation.
Email Within 24 hours after applicant accepts their acceptance from admissions. One year after graduation.
ExamSoft Day before classes start for the term.  Immediately upon graduation. 
Handshake (Career Services) Within 24 hours of course registration. One year after graduation.
LMS (Learning Management System) Within 24 hours of course registration. Three years after graduation.
Pounce Student holds will prevent and remove access. Unenrolling from a course will remove access to that course. Three years after graduation. 
TRAIN Within 24 hours of course registration. Three years after graduation. 
Microsoft Teams  Within 24 hours of course registration. Immediately upon graduation.
