About the VP and CIO

Michael Casdorph

Dr. Michael Casdorph is a seasoned information technology executive with over 35 years of experience. He has worked in higher education for almost 30 years and in academic healthcare for over 15 years. As vice president of information technology and chief information officer at Augusta University, Dr. Casdorph is a servant leader and a reliable business partner. He focuses on hiring, supporting, and motivating a talented team of experienced IT professionals. He and his team are responsible for creating and maintaining a customer-oriented, flexible, efficient, and secure technology ecosystem. Their solutions support innovative teaching and learning, advanced research and scholarship, and data-driven decision-making that advances the educational, research, and clinical activities of Augusta University, including the Medical College of Georgia, the Dental College of Georgia, and multiple campuses and locations throughout Georgia.

Dr. Casdorph joined Augusta University in 2009 and has taken on various leadership roles, such as director of instructional support design, director of academic and research technology, associate vice president of academic and research technology, associate vice president for information technology, and deputy chief information officer. He stepped in as the interim CIO in 2018 and, in 2019, was formally named as vice president of information technology and chief information officer.

Dr. Casdorph is committed to lifelong learning. He holds a bachelor’s degree in interdisciplinary studies from Marylhurst University, a master's degree in Educational Technology from the University of South Carolina, and a doctoral degree in Education from Georgia Southern. Additionally, he has completed the University System of Georgia Executive Leadership Institute and Columbia University’s Business School Technology Leadership Institute. In the fall of 2021, Dr. Casdorph received the 2021 Georgia CIO ORBIE award for education, government, and the public sector.

Beyond his professional life, Dr. Casdorph values his family. He and his wife, Danene, are the proud parents of Matthew, Madison, Kaitlyn, and Kendel, and the loving grandparents of Bailey and Destiney. This personal aspect of his life showcases his ability to balance work and personal life.

Our Goals

The goal of IT is to make it easier for students, faculty, and staff to learn, teach, research, and work. We do this by engaging with the AU and AUHS community to determine their needs and give them the resources and tools they need to help them do their jobs. Our focus is on:

  • Advance teaching and learningthrough innovative and effective technologies, resources, and services.
  • Empower researchthrough innovative and effective technologies, resources, and services.
  • Provide robust, reliable, and trusted administrative systemsthat enable business processes and efficiencies through effective implementation of information technology.
  • Leverage IT risk management and information security practices to protect the confidentiality of our students, patients, faculty, and staff, and to reduce adverse impacts to the University.
  • Provision and operate efficient and effective shared IT infrastructure.
  • Enable IT governanceto foster transparency and optimize IT resources to achieve the University’s vision, mission, and strategic priorities.
