Desire2Learn (D2L) is the online learning management system for Augusta University. It is also sometimes referred to as Brightspace (what D2L calls their product). You may think of D2L as a vast repository where you can store and track information related to coursework. All students and instructors can access D2L and engage in specific courses using a computer or mobile device.
D2L provides a FERPA-protected platform for AU courses to house classroom content and activities in a shared digital learning space. For example, you can use D2L to share and store documents, execute quizzes, engage students in online discussions, provide video, audio, and other resources, deliver course announcements, and so on. It is highly customizable and provides instructors the ability to personalize course content and experience.
The following two resources outline the benefits of using Learning Management Systems for a class:
The Center for Instructional Innovation, in conjunction with Information Technology, offer workshops and learning labs to provide pedagogically sound tips and strategies for teaching with technology, as well as hands on labs that focus on the use of instructional tools.
CII offers training services and tutorials to faculty who use technology and software for teaching and learning at Augusta University.
