Faculty and students in the Department of Psychological Science are engaged in a wide variety of research that explores development, and basic affective, cognitive, social, and neurological mechanisms of psychological processes.
Research Statement
The Department of Psychological Sciences is committed to being a leading contributor in the field of psychology through a synergistic combination of excellence in research, students’ success, and community engagement. Underlying our goals is a recognition and appreciation for the role of diversity in understanding human thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. We seek to promote rigorous and impactful research, scientific discovery, and scholarship by attracting, recruiting, and retaining leading researchers and faculty. We aim to maximize our students’ success by cultivating skills in scientific inquiry, critical thinking, and information literacy while engaging in best practices in research and clinical experiences. Students who engage in research with faculty mentors are provided with hands-on learning and discovery experiences that leave them well-prepared for life, work, or further study. Moreover, our students and faculty work together to contribute to the science and practice of psychology, and by extension, improve our communities.
