Family and Community Medicine Center

The heart of the residency program is the Family and Community Medicine Center (FCMC), the largest single entity of comprehensive primary care services at Augusta fmc-interiorUniversity, where residents learn and refine their clinical and procedural skills for the care of patients and their families.

Recognized by the National Committee for Quality Assurance as a Patient-Centered Medical Home, faculty and resident providers deliver complex comprehensive care in approximately 38,000 patient visits per year with various levels of acuity and multiple co-morbidities. Multiple ancillary services are available to patients in the center, including pulmonary function testing, colonoscopies, colposcopies, skin biopsies, acupuncture, and osteopathic manipulative treatment.

The FCMCFamily and Community Medicine Center also has its own fully integrated research section which provides IRBInstitutional Review Board services, data collection, and statistical support for scholarly activities, research projects, and publications.

The Family and Community Medicine Center is in the process of transforming clinical activities to incorporate patient-and family-centered care concepts in the context of a patient-centered medical home. This practice transformation will ensure quality assessment and improvement by applying measureable evidence-based medicine in individual and practice-based population health and disease management.
