Osteopathic Curriculum

The Department of Family and Community Medicine received Osteopathic Recognition from the ACGME in 2024, demonstrating our commitment to teaching osteopathic principles and practice in the learning environment.

Our 3-year osteopathic curriculum equips residents with the expertise to confidently perform Osteopathic Manipulative Therapy (OMT) and incorporate it into their daily practice.

  • Monthly Osteopathic lectures - Administered by designated Osteopathic residents incorporating Osteopathic principles and practice into our overall 18 month, family medicine residency curriculum. Lectures are given to all residents in the program and incorporate education on techniques and research on the specific areas.
  • Membership to ACOFP and opportunities to participate in national conferences.
  • ABFM and Osteopathic in-training examinations - Yearly exams to evaluate and help prepare residents for the written component of board exams.
  • OMT Elective Opportunities - MD residents can actively participate in OMT clinics, engage with curated readings and videos, and collaborate with attending physicians to deepen their understanding of osteopathic techniques.
  • Opportunities for community service in Osteopathy
  • Osteopathic recognition track for MD residents -MD residents have the opportunity to enroll in our formal Osteopathic track and receive the training necessary to obtain certification for OMT from the AOBFP.
  • Access to educational materials from ACOFP - Access to OMTeaching (a large library of video OMT techniques designed by ACOFP) and other written materials.
  • Scholarship Opportunities- Opportunities for participation and development of Osteopathic research and QI projects.

This curriculum ensures that every graduate, whether DO or MD, has the opportunity to experience osteopathic medicine and its value in enhancing patient care.
