Learning Like No Other
Growing through research at the College of Science and Mathematics.
Research allows students to gain knowledge above and beyond textbooks and lectures. The CSM students within each of our departments - biological sciences, mathematics, chemistry, and physics - are inspired to identify problems affecting our world today and find creative ways to solve them. Students will pursue their interests, push boundaries, take on challenges, and develop creative problem-solving skills.
Research allows students to develop a broader understanding of the world around them, and they will learn from experienced faculty mentors who engage students in faculty-initiated research projects. Ultimately, students will design and develop their own research projects as they progress through their degrees.

Funding Opportunity
Thanks to an endowment established by Robert and Katherine Reese Pamplin, the College of Science and Mathematics is able to provide funding to support undergraduate and graduate students’ engagement in support of research mentored by faculty. Faculty who are actively mentoring College of Science and Mathematics majors engaged in a scientific research project may submit proposals on behalf of their student(s).
A call for proposals is issued in two cycles each year: fall semester and spring/summer semesters. Both undergraduate and graduate students are eligible to receive this funding. Priority for funding will be given to projects which are likely to yield a peer-reviewed publication and/or a grant proposal.
The College of Science and Mathematics provides students with strong foundations in the sciences as well as preparation for careers, citizenship, and a life-long love of learning. We are committed to providing experiences promoting scientific inquiry and discovery and dedicated to creating opportunities for intellectual growth and community involvement.
