Technology can be leveraged in accessing coursework and activities at a distance – including a workstation/laptop running a current Windows or MacOS operating system with integrated audio and video capabilities that will be used for video conferencing and secure exam administration and a reliable broadband internet connection.
The Augusta University Division of Information Technology has provided recommendations for minimum requirements of computers in order to ensure a consistent experience with Augusta University instructional technologies. Please note that these general guidelines are applicable for all Augusta University students, however select programs may have more specific requirements. With that in mind, please confirm with your department/school to verify any specific requirements before making a purchase.
Please note that Augusta University does not support or recommend the purchase of a Chromebook for academic coursework as many of the applications utilized in delivering instruction require software applications be installed directly on the device that are only available for Windows and MacOS operating systems. Similarly, while tablets and smartphones are helpful for on-the-go note-taking and messaging, they do not meet the requirements of Augusta University’s academic systems.
We understand that the challenges many of us are facing may present a hardship in purchasing a new computer and internet services. To assist students experiencing financial hardship that do not own or have access to a computer that meets these requirements, Augusta University has purchased a supply of laptop computers that can be checked out for the duration of a semester. Inquiries regarding the availability of a device should be directed to the IT walk up Help Desk in the Reese Library.
