Keynote Speaker | David Brooks, PhD

Dr. Brooks

"Beyond the Bench: Interviewing and Leading in the Health Sciences"

Dr. David P. Brooks is a distinguished physiologist and pharmaceutical executive with over 40 years of experience in academia, industry leadership, and biomedical innovation. He holds a BS in Physiology and Chemistry from Queen Elizabeth College, University of London, and earned his MS and PhD in Biochemical Pharmacology and Physiology, respectively, from Southampton University. Dr. Brooks began his career in academia, serving as a postdoctoral fellow and assistant professor at institutions including the University of Southampton, University of Hawaii, and University of Tennessee, with a research focus on renal physiology and neuroendocrinology.

Since 1986, Dr. Brooks has held senior leadership roles at SmithKline Beecham, GlaxoSmithKline, and Johnson & Johnson, where he led major business development and licensing deals totaling over $7 billion. In 2020, he founded Brooks Pharma Consulting LLC, providing strategic guidance in drug discovery and development. A Fellow of the American Heart Association and American Physiological Society, Dr. Brooks has contributed to the development of three approved drugs, authored over 200 publications, served on editorial boards, and remains active in many different scientific societies.
