Pediatric Anesthesia

Overview

Anesthesia residents spend approximately 4-5 months on pediatric service during residency. Rotations start as early as the CA1 year and residents are ready to independently care for patients by graduation.

A comprehensive didactic program specific to Pediatric Anesthesia is provided weekly in addition to a weekly General Anesthesia curriculum.

Recent graduates who have shown an interest in a Pediatric Anesthesia subspecialty have successfully matched with their desired programs. We are also delighted when they return to work with us after their pediatric fellowships.

About

Opened in 1997, the Children’s Hospital of Georgia and is the only healthcare facility in the region dedicated exclusively to pediatric care. The Children's Hospital is consistently ranked in the top 10% nationally in measures of quality of care and is one of the leading hospitals having developed and implemented programs for Patient and Family Centered Care. 

Highlights

• Pediatric Anesthesia provides coverage for the approximately 6000 cases performed each year.
• All surgical sub-specialties are represented in our operating rooms.
• The Children’s Hospital of Georgia:
  • houses the area’s only nationally accredited and certified pediatric echocardiography lab
  • is the only facility capable of offering pediatric ECMO support
  • has a state of the art NICU with 45 beds and a fully staffed PICU with 15 beds
