The Miano lab has developed dozens of rodent models, primarily with gene editing platforms,
to study previously challenging research questions in vascular smooth muscle cell
pathobiology. Current topics of interest include the control of smooth muscle gene
transcription in vivo, vascular smooth muscle cell-restricted gene knockouts, Myocardin
protein biology, and the ACE2/ACE2-DT gene pair in SARS-CoV-2 infection and (long) COVID-19 disease.
Research Projects
Transcriptional/post-transcriptional regulation of the SRF-Myocardin switch
Function and regulation of novel SRF-Myocardin target genes
