Research Interests

The Miano lab has developed dozens of rodent models, primarily with gene editing platforms, to study previously challenging research questions in vascular smooth muscle cell pathobiology. Current topics of interest include the control of smooth muscle gene transcription in vivo, vascular smooth muscle cell-restricted gene knockouts, Myocardin protein biology, and the ACE2/ACE2-DT  gene pair in SARS-CoV-2 infection and (long) COVID-19 disease.

Research Projects

Miano Lab Summary - Transcriptional/post-transcriptional regulation of the SRF-Myocardin switch Function and regulation of novel SRF-Myocardin target genes

  • Transcriptional/post-transcriptional regulation of the SRF-Myocardin switch
  • Function and regulation of novel SRF-Myocardin target genes
  • CArG-SNP discovery and activity
  • LncRNA discovery and function
  • Development of new mouse models and correction of Mendelian traits in utero using Prime editing
  • Development of new rat models to interrogate the SRF-Myocardin switch under various stress conditions (eg, exercise and disease models)
