GME Ultrasound Curricular Goals

The goals of the GME ultrasound curriculum include:

  • Implementation of a 12 month integrated Point-of-Care ultrasound curriculum that focuses on clinical integration of ultrasound with specific disease states.
  • Providing extensive Point-of-Care ultrasound education to GME physicians who will value ultrasound integration as part of the clinical decision making process.
  • Using Point-of-Care ultrasound technology for improvement of patient safety and clinician efficiency within the GME curriculum.
  • Developing the next generation of ultrasound clinician/educators with focus on increased acceptance of clinical ultrasound across the Augusta University Health System.
  • Presenting Augusta University as a national leader in resident ultrasound education across all medicine disciplines.

GME Ultrasound Curricular General Objectives

The general objectives of the GME ultrasound curriculum include:

  • Teach the use of ultrasound for needle visualization and real time needle guidance
  • Identify and train faculty and resident ultrasound experts in each specialty
  • Correlation of ultrasound images with traditional physical exam findings.
  • Gather data on ultrasound competency during undergraduate and graduate medical education
  • Coordinate with sim center to integrate ultrasound into simulation during undergraduate and graduate medical education

Fellow Ultrasound Curricular Goals

 The goals of the fellow ultrasound curriculum include:

  • Utilization of advanced ultrasound applications integrated into patient care at the bedside
  • Implementation of a 12-month advanced point of care ultrasound curriculum
  • Equip trainees as point of care ultrasound educators

Fellow Ultrasound Curricular General Objectives

The general objectives of the fellow ultrasound curriculum include:

  • Completion of 900 documented point of care ultrasound examinations by the fellow
  • Develop advanced ultrasound expertise in the areas of emergency and critical care, abdominal ultrasound, limited echocardiography, and ultrasound in resource limited settings.
  • Develop teaching capabilities for the continuing education of medical students, residents, and practicing clinicians in the area of basic point of care ultrasound application
  • Complete one ultrasound based research project
  • Support the training activities run by the Center for Ultrasound Education
