Block 3

Clinical Experience Block 3 

The PCL Clinical Experience includes: Telemedicine Patient Experience Session, Clinical Procedures Session, and Ultrasound Session.

Block 3 OBJECTIVES AND ASSESSMENTS

Schedule of the Day

12:50 - 1:00PM

ZOOM ORIENTATION Make sure you use the QR Code to sign in!

1:00 - 2:30PM

Telemedicine Encounters (1:00 or 1:35 start) 

  • M1 students will be conducting the visit as M2 students observe 
  • Complete the SOAP Presentation Debrief Qualtrics form with a faculty member during your debrief session

AMWELL NOW   SOAP PRESENTATION DEBRIEF CITRIX ACCESS  

 Clinical Procedures (1:00 or 1:50 start) 

  • Isolation and needle guidance. 
  • Save and email yourself a longitudinal image with needle in model vessel to upload into D2L (LONGITUDINAL NEEDLE USGIV)
  • If you finish procedures early: 1st group prep for visit and 2nd group can watch their post work vitals podcast and reporter can finish note.

2:30 - 2:35PM

Ultrasound the Knee

  • M1s move to partner's room (room assignments are in the hallway and on your computer in room)
  • Obtain required images of the knee with your partner and debrief with staff (SPs will be available until 14:55)

Telemedicine Patient Encounter

REFRESH

  • Review PCL Note Template with additions specific for primary care and chronic conditions Example Note that follows this template
  • Review the SOAP presentation video

PREWORK REQUIRED

  • Review your patient's medical history and prepare for your telemedicine visit
  • Ask M2 for last patient note in [SECURE] email and recommendations on what to cover
  • Complete online EPIC training through PCL. Once able to access the EMR, look up patient information
  • Watch Old Dominion University Telehealth Physical Exams: Skin Video
  • Watch Health Coaching (Medical Reconciliation): Techniques to Deliver Patient Centered Care Video
  • Watch Introduction to Motivational Interviewing and complete your Motivational Interviewing Self Assessment

POSTWORK 

  • Recorder must complete your patient's note by 5:00 PM the day after your patient encounter and send your note in a [SECURE] email to your M2 mentor, your partner and PCL preceptor.
  • Interviewer team reviews final note and feedback on final note from recorder team
  • Complete the Class of 2028 PCL Clinical Experience Post-Visit Survey 
  • Workflow for Note Feedback (This will update based on student EPIC access)  
  • If this is not completed on time, you will lose professionalism points.

  • Review Block 3 MSK Knee Ultrasound example Images A Class of 2027 mentor will assist you with starting your ultrasound scanning only. You will consent and scan with your M1 partner or SP if needed.
