Clinical Experience Block 12

The PCL Clinical Experience includes: Telemedicine Patient Experience Session, Clinical Procedures Session, and Ultrasound Session.

1:00 - 2:30PM

Telemedicine Encounters (1:00 or 1:50 start) 

  • M1 students will be conducting the visit as M2 students observe 
  • Complete the SOAP Presentation Debrief Qualtrics form with a faculty member during your debrief session.

Clinical Procedures (1:00 or 1:50 start) 

  • Isolation and needle guidance. 
  • Assist M1 with saving a longitudinal image with needle in model vessel to upload into D2L (Example Image)
  • If you finish procedures early:
    • 1st group prep for visit
    • 2nd group may practice RUSH while M1s work on postwork.

2:30 - 3:00PM

RUSH Practicum Orientation

  • M2s move to conference room by 2:35
  • Information will be provided on the RUSH practicum and on ultrasound requirements during clerkship.

3:00 - 5:00PM

Telemedicine Patient Encounter

REFRESH

  • Review Note Template Documentation Video (recommend playing at 1.5-2X speed)
  • Review PCL Note Template with minor additions to assist with chronic disease/ primary care note documentation

  • Below is pre-work for your mentee. We recommend that you review these as you will likely be asked questions on all three videos:

PREWORK REQUIRED

  • Review your patient's medical history and prepare for your telemedicine patient encounter.
  • Be prepared to assist your M1 with performing a medicine history reconciliation in the EMR (video above)
  • Be prepared to present objective data and the assessment and plan on the day of the encounter
  • Recorders are the only ones that write a note and will receive the majority of that note already written from their mentee in a [secure] email

POSTWORK

  • Recorders: Edit and complete your mentee’s note on your patient by 5:00 PM 48 hours after your patient encounter and sign/submit your note to Clinical Experience Preceptor for signature. Submit to all others as a reviewer: PCL preceptor, primary care physician, and partner. If you have a SP encounter, send note to PCE preceptor, PCL preceptor, partner and mentees. Your final note is sufficient for feedback to your mentees, however you can offer additional constructive feedback as soon as you feel is appropriate.
  • Workflow for Note Feedback    
  • Once your note is sent to your Clinical Experience Preceptor, fill out Staff Documentation Qualtrics Survey to receive documentation feedback.
  • Send feedback received from the Qualtrics survey to your Mentee(s) to review. If you had an SP encounter, include your edited note in the email for them to review.
  • Complete the 10-question Primary Care Interest survey
  • Complete the Post Visit Survey. 
  • If any of the above is not performed you may lose professionalism points.
