Three residents rotate through the section every month. Often busy and demanding, your rotation as a resident provides the opportunity to care for some of our sickest patients. This, along with an excellent learning and encouraging environment, one-on-one supervision, and exposure to progressively deeper levels of TEETransesophageal Echocardiogram experience, often inspires residents to pursue cardiothoracic anesthesia as a future career.
Simulation in TEE and invasive line placement are additional learning experiences available during your rotation.

Working alongside surgeons and cardiologists, you will perform:
During this rotation, you will work closely with faculty certified in advanced perioperative transesophageal echocardiography and learn to integrate vital information available from 2D and 3D TEE technology including speckle tracking and 3D reconstructions of the left ventricle and mitral valve. This information can be used to guide procedures and fine-tune perioperative management of patients.

We are here to provide anesthesia and echocardiographic services for the full spectrum of cardiac, thoracic, major vascular, and electrophysiological procedures.
Our section has led the research mission of the department by consistently producing abstracts accepted to regional, national and international meetings as well as manuscripts accepted to peer-reviewed journals. Multiple ongoing research projects will provide ample opportunities to participate and learn.
