David J. Fallaw, MD

Associate Program Director and Director of Medical Economics Curriculum

dfallaw@augusta.edu

Dr. David Fallaw was appointed Associate Program Director of Internal Medicine Residency in 2013.  A native of Aiken, South Carolina, he earned his undergraduate degrees in Biology and German from Wofford College in 2001.  He subsequently attended the Medical University of South Carolina, where he graduated as Class President in 2006.  Upon completion of his medical degree, Dr. Fallaw entered into the Internal Medicine Residency Program at the Medical College of Georgia, and in 2009 he was named Chief Medical Resident.  His chief residency confirmed his desire not only to pursue a career in General Internal Medicine, but also to practice in an academic setting at Augusta University.  He thus joined the Department of Medicine as an Assistant Professor in 2010.

While a faculty member, Dr. Fallaw has reincarnated and further developed a required course for the Internal Medicine and Family Medicine residents in Medical Economics and Practice Management.  It essentially encompasses all the things residents wish they were taught in medical school or in traditional residency curriculum to prepare them for practice upon completion of their training.  This has been consistently rated among the highest rotations in which our residents partake at Augusta University.   He also thoroughly enjoys teaching Residents, Interns, and Students on Internal Medicine Ward Services and outpatient Internal Medicine Clinics through both direct patient care and the presentation of practical high yield topics in Internal Medicine.  For these efforts he was honored with receiving the Exemplary Teaching Award for Residency Education at the Medical College of Georgia in 2013.

In 2012, Dr. Fallaw also took on the role of Augusta University Health EHR Physician Champion and Chair of the Clinical Informatics Advisory Committee for Augusta University Health, where he is the physician leader for the planning, implementation, and training of the electronic health record and coordinating partnerships with Cerner and Philips.  Dr. Fallaw enjoys the role as a liaison between the physician community and Information Services, where he can provide leadership in the design of best practice clinical processes to improve both efficiency and quality to all care delivered at Augusta University Health.  Through this role he has also given several national presentations in Healthcare Informatics and process improvement.  Dr. Fallaw sits on the Augusta University Medical Center Medical Executive Committee and Medical College of Georgia Admissions Committee and is a member of the American College of Physicians, Society of General Internal Medicine, and Association of Program Directors in Internal Medicine.

In addition to his significant interests in the improvement of the quality and efficiency of healthcare delivery at Augusta University, Dr. Fallaw is committed to providing high-quality, comprehensive and compassionate care, personalized to each of his own patients.  Outside of the clinical setting, he enjoys spending time with his wife, Robyn, and his two Boykin Spaniels, Doc and Lucky, playing golf at Palmetto, soccer, hunting, fishing, following South Carolina football, or just spending time in the great outdoors at his family farm.
