Area of Focus: Military Medicine

Why you came to MCG to train: Jack of all trades...I loved something about every rotation in medical school. EM sees all ages and has a large variety of diagnosis and procedures in a single shift. As an Active-duty Army officer EM affords me the opportunity to return to special operations and my ultimate goal to teach, train and mentor those that care of those that put themselves in harm's way.

Hobbies: Working out, running, teaching Tactical Combat Casualty Care

Area of Focus: Military Medicine

Why you came to MCG to train:  It's a very stimulating field; high-energy and full of surprises. I love being able to care for any age group, background, and pathology (to an extent!). These skills apply to a wide variety of contexts, so the job and travel opportunities, along with discrete work hours, make for my ideal lifestyle.

Hobbies: Traveling to new countries, experiencing live music, skiing the West, strenuous work-outs, meditation, binge-watching shows, grabbing a beer with friends

About

Hometown: Inman, SC

Undergraduate Training: The Citadel

Medical School:    Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine - Carolinas

Area of Focus: LGBTQ+ Healthcare, Harm Reduction Strategies, Toxicology

Why you came to MCG to train: The ability to be a jack of all trades in a pinch is something I love about all of emergency medicine, from EMS personnel to nurses to the physicians themselves. I also love the fact that EM also allows you to be there so directly for the community around you, serving everyone regardless of who they are or where they come from or where they’re at in life. Being there for those people in some of their scariest moments is a privilege and an amazing opportunity to give back to the community you live in.

Uniformed Services University

About

Hometown: Harrisburg, PA

Undergraduate Training: West Point

Medical School:  Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences

Area of Focus: Military Medicine

Why you came to MCG to train: Fast paced, dynamic, and people focused. It is a specialty that can extend beyond the walls of a hospital and encourages a spectrum of care. Whether it is working with other specialties to admit, offering an ear to a patient who needs to be listened to, or providing resources to bridge a gap in care for someone in need, this specialty has the unique opportunity to truly advocate for someone.

Hobbies: Spending time with family! I have 3 wild boys, so they take up most of my free time. Otherwise, you might catch me attempting a mindless task such as basic carpentry or lawn care.

Edward Via College of Medicine

About

Hometown: Plainfield, NH

Undergraduate Training: University of Maryland

Medical School:    Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine - Auburn

Area of Focus: Community Emergency Medicine

Why you came to MCG to train: I love the constant challenge and need to think on your feet, incorporating knowledge from every other specialty and the blend of critical thinking and procedural skills. It's one of the few places where you can make such a huge difference in someone's life at such a vulnerable time and the general comradery from other clinicians within the specialty I believe is unmatched.

Hobbies: Working on my farm and time with family

Why you came to MCG to train: EM is often the front line of healthcare. My father was diagnosed with brain cancer and had a great ED doctor that set the tone of hope and courage which he held onto during the duration of his treatments. I want to be there for others in need.

Hobbies: I love sports. My wife and I also love film. So much so that we have been marching our way through the Library of Congress’ Complete National Film Registry.

About

Hometown: Tifton, GA

Undergraduate Training: Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College

Medical School:  Medical College of Georgia at Augusta University

Area of Focus: Rural Medicine

Why you came to MCG to train: Emergency medicine is the best specialty. The fast-paced environment excites me, and I’m drawn to the unpredictability of cases. Helping patients during their most critical moments is incredibly rewarding. The camaraderie among emergency medical residents is inspiring. Being on the frontlines of medical emergencies, I strive to make a meaningful impact on individuals when they are at their most vulnerable. It’s a calling that brings purpose to my career and allows me to contribute significantly to the well-being of others.

Hobbies: I like keeping my wife happy, but in my free time, I enjoy playing soccer and chess. I follow the Mexican National Team and Chivas de Guadalajara. For chess, my favorite opening is the Caro-Kann.

Why you came to MCG to train: EM reminded me of why I came to medicine in the first place - the people, the ability to intervene anywhere, how patients present like a sudoku puzzle (what symptom fits where and how it all comes together). Also, the personalities because EM people rock.
