Augusta University Online’s MS in Information Security Management program can equip you with the cutting-edge skills you need to address and prevent cyberattacks.

Beginning Fall 2026, the program will be renamed as a Master of Science in Cybersecurity Management and Technology. This change in program name will not affect the curriculum or the tracks offered by Augusta University Online.

The MS-ISM program is a 30-hour master’s program divided into six, 3-credit hour core courses, and four electives. All courses are taught online asynchronously, so there is no requirement for students to live geographically near to the university.

Please Note: The MS-ISM Program is a 100% online program.

The Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS) Form I-20 for F-1 student status or Form DS-2019 for Exchange Visitor (J-1) Status cannot be issued by Augusta University for enrollment in this online program per U.S. immigration regulations. Goals and Objectives

The program’s management concentration allows you to tailor your degree by focusing on coursework that can help you advance to a leadership role in your career — all while gaining an expert-level understanding of information security management.

Completing the program can help you develop the in-demand skills required to serve on the front line of cyberdefense in any organization.

Our courses focus on the core domains of information security covered in the certified information systems security professional (CISSP) certification exam, while going more in-depth on key topics. The program covers important areas such as:

  • CISSP Certification Overview
  • Human factors in Information Security
  • Security Policy Development
  • Managing Risk
  • Legal Issues in Information Security

Benefits

Earning an online master’s degree in information security management from Augusta can yield numerous benefits.

  • Advanced Skill Development: You’ll gain expert-level knowledge of complex cybersecurity concepts, preparing you to face a range of sophisticated cyberthreats.
  • Professional Growth: The skills you develop in the program can help you qualify for new and higher-level positions, enabling you to advance within your current role or shift to a new one.
  • Networking Opportunities: Our program allows you to foster meaningful connections with your peers and faculty members with industry experience, helping you broaden your professional network.

Program Recommendations

The online master’s in information security management program has two tracks or concentrations, technical and management, each of which has its own requirements.

Technical Track: Students pursuing the technical track are expected to have an undergraduate degree in a technical field (e.g., information technology, computer science, computer engineering) or a strong professional background in related technology.

Management Track: The management track is designed to teach management skills along with technical skills. Students pursuing the management track do not need a technical undergraduate degree. However, to increase their employment opportunities, students without technical undergraduate degrees should possess technical skills from other sources (e.g., certifications, work experience). Speak to your adviser about your situation if you have no or little technical skills.

Career Outlook

The world’s ever-increasing reliance on technology is driving demand for information and network security, creating an increasing number of employment opportunities in cybersecurity. In fact, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics predicts a staggering 33 percent growth in jobs in this sector between 2023 and 2033. Meanwhile, the World Economic Forum estimates there is a shortage of roughly 4 million cybersecurity professionals around the world.

When you earn an online MS in Information Security Management, you prepare yourself for roles such as:

Chief Information Security Officer (CISO)

Cybersecurity Manager

Chief Security Officer (CSO)

Security Architect

Chief Security Analyst

Security Operations Center (SOC) Manager
