About the Physician Assistant Program

What is the PA profession's outlook?

The United States Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that the May 2020 median annual salary for Physician Assistants was $115,390 per year. The BLS projects that the number of PA jobs will increase by 31 percent between 2020 and 2030, much faster than the average for all occupations. 2022 US News and World Report ranks PA as the #2 Best Health Care Job and the #3 Best Job overall.

Augusta University has a long tradition of PA education.

Augusta University's PA program received its accreditation in 1973, making it one of the oldest programs in the South. Augusta University's Medical College of Georgia is the 11th oldest medical school in the United States.

Veterans Initiative

Augusta University's Physician Assistant "Green to Grad" Program seeks to eliminate enrollment barriers unique to veterans by allowing academic credit through the military evaluation program of the American Council on Education.

ACE, created in 1942 to recognize the educational value of military training and experience, continuously evaluates military schools, correspondence courses, and occupations to determine the credit amount and level each should be awarded. Veterans can earn academic credit for most military training, including Basic Training. ACE is funded by the Department of Defense and coordinated through DANTES.

Veterans applying to our program are able to use relevant ACE courses as credit towards the 90 semester hours of prerequisites.

Welcome from the Chair

Thank you for taking your time to explore the Augusta University PA program website and whether we may be the right fit for your educational goals.  If you are an applicant, make sure you take advantage of the Special Events: Transfer Visit Days offered by the Admissions Office. There you will learn more about the curriculum, our students and faculty.  If you are a physician assistant alumnus from our program, please visit our Facebook page MCG/GHSU/GRU/AU Physician Assistant Program Graduates for job opportunities and to connect with other graduates, faculty, and staff. If you are a health professional who would like to get involved in our teaching program or in our community service activities please let us know how you would like to volunteer your time and talents.

On a personal note, I am a 1998 graduate of the Augusta University Physician Assistant Program.  I have served as the Associate Director of Admissions for five years and as the Director of Admissions for the last ten years.  I have been the Department Chair since June 2021.  I take great pride in being a part of the leadership of the College of Allied Health Sciences.  I work with an outstanding group of PA educators that are dedicated and committed to excellence. Our graduating classes consistently perform above the national average on the PANCE board scores and the Class of 2021 had a 100% PANCE national board exam pass rate.

Our program is offered on the Augusta campus during the didactic phase and we offer clinical rotations for the second year of training across Georgia and the Southeast and we are expanding these opportunities daily. The Augusta University PA program has been in existence since 1972.  We are the only publicly funded physician assistant program in the state of Georgia. We embrace our statewide mission in meeting the healthcare needs of Georgia's citizens.

Employers and preceptors rate our graduates with nearly 100% satisfaction rating. Our faculty have worked hard to build a unique graduate curriculum that will develop excellent clinicians, educators and leaders of the future. I look forward to your application.

Warmest regards,
