City of Augusta, GA

Augusta is nestled on the banks of the Savannah River on Georgia's eastern border. It is the hub of the 18-county Central Savannah River Area, which also includes counties in neighboring South Carolina. As the second-largest and oldest city in Georgia, Augusta embraces its past while looking ahead to the future. Augusta has been named the most affordable housing market in the country by several organizations, including the online division of American City Business Journals. And The Wall Street Journal has singled out the area as a draw for retirees looking to stretch their investment dollars. With a multitude of cultural, educational, and outdoor activities to choose from, Augusta is an ideal location – the perfect blend of Southern hospitality and metro flair.

For the health care professional, Augusta is a stimulating place to work. More than 10,000 local residents are employed in the health care industry, working at eight area hospitals and teaching centers. The abundance of unique facilities has made Augusta a referral center for much of Georgia and South Carolina. Nearby health care facilities include:

  • Wellstar MCG Health
  • Children's Hospital of Georgia
  • Piedmont Augusta
  • Health South Walton Rehabilitation Hospital
  • Doctors Hospital
  • Charlie Norwood Veterans Administration Medical Center
  • Brandon Wilde Life Care Community
  • Richmond County Health Department
  • National Health Care Nursing and Rehabilitation Center
  • School nutrition programs in Richmond, Burke, and Columbia counties
  • Area dialysis centers
