About Our Program

Why Augusta University?

Augusta University respiratory therapy graduates are well prepared for academic and career advancements. Degree Program

Augusta University offers a degree in Respiratory Therapy under accreditation by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS). Bachelor of Science in Respiratory Therapy leading to the Registered Respiratory Therapist credential:

  • 2+2 program student completes first two years at any accredited college or university of choice, and the last two years at Augusta University
  • 2+2 students begin the program fall semester after completing a core curriculum
  • Program consists of five semesters and includes classroom and clinical education
  • Only 18% of therapists have a B.S. in Respiratory Therapy
  • The Augusta University Respiratory Therapy Program, CoARC #200224, Bachelor of Science in Respiratory Therapy on the Health Sciences Campus in Augusta, GA holds full accreditation status from the Commission on Accreditation for Respiratory Care (CoARC). This allows the graduate to enter the credentialing system by National Board for Respiratory Care.

Costs Associated With the Program Leading to the Registered Respiratory Therapist Credential

During the course of Respiratory Therapy program there will be costs related to health science education that are not typical of other disciplines. To date the following, most if not all covered by financial aid, should be planned for by the student (estimated):

Background Checks (by 12/1 of both years, mandatory) $240
Clinical attire and equipment (Spring, junior year, mandatory) $250
American Heart Association Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers (Fall, Junior Year, mandatory) $60
Neonatal Resuscitation Program (Summer semester, mandatory) $200
Advanced Cardiac Life Support (Fall, Senior year, mandatory) $200
Malpractice Insurance $13
Externship Housing Variable
Credentialing Review (Spring, Senior year, mandatory) $425 (variable)
State of Georgia Licensing Process $325 (variable)
