Ultrasound for Residents

Emergency Ultrasound for Resident at MCGOne of the primary missions of the Section of Emergency and Clinical Ultrasound is resident education. Residents get an intensive education beginning as an intern and extending throughout residency.

Highlights include:

  • 2-day Introductory Ultrasound Course beginning in July: all aspects of emergency ultrasound are covered utilizing both didactics and hands-on training COURSE SYLLABUS
  • Routine use of ultrasound during clinical shifts
  • Dedicated ultrasound month as an EM-2 with no clinical responsibilities
  • Monthly ultrasound topics included in lecture series
  • Elective months for those with a specific emergency ultrasound interest

Multiple ultrasound machines are available for use in the ED at all times. These machines are used to evaluate conditions such as:

Trauma
Ectopic Pregnancy
AAA
Cholecystitis/ Cholelithiasis
DVT
Shortness of breath
Chest pain
Pelvic pain
Abscesses
Used for peripheral and central venous access

 

Resident Research

MCG is currently one of the most prolific sources of emergency ultrasound research in the nation. Resident involvement is strongly encouraged. Ultrasound faculty and residents publish numerous articles and present abstracts and posters at conferences throughout the United States, having earned numerous ultrasound awards.
