Since 2007, the Hull College of Business has hosted an annual Economic Forecast Breakfast, held in early December and funded through a gift from Wells Fargo Bank. The breakfast brings the expertise of faculty economist Simon Medcalfe, Ph.D., to community and business leaders, examining the strength of the local and state economy and trends that will impact the coming year.
Simon K. Medcalfe joined Augusta University in 2009 and is a professor of economics and Cree-Walker Chair at the Hull College of Business, with an emphasis on sports economics, social determinants of health, and the local economy.
A decorated faculty member, he received the Distinguished Service Award from the Graduate School in 2016 and Outstanding Faculty Award from the Hull College of Business in 2018.
Medcalfe is the author of two books, “Incentives in Baseball” and “Extraordinary Perspectives on Business,” both published in 2008.
Educated in his native England, Medcalfe earned his bachelor's degree, majoring in economics, and master's degree, majoring in general finance, from the University of Leicester. He earned his Ph.D. in business and managerial economics in 2006 from Lehigh University in Bethlehem, PA.
He is also a member of the American Economic Association and National Association of Forensic Economists.
