Religious Accommodations

Request Procedure

Augusta University (AU) is an equal opportunity employer. A reasonable religious accommodation is any adjustment to the work environment that will allow an employee or applicant to practice or participate in his or her religious beliefs without undue hardship on AU's business operations.

When making a religious accommodation determination, several factors will be considered:

• The nature and duration of the requested accommodation.
• The impact of the requested accommodation on the performance of the employee’s essential job functions.
• The financial impact of the requested accommodation.
• The impact of the requested accommodation on other employees, students, or university operations. (Note: this may include consideration of seniority within the same unit or department.)
• Any alternative accommodation.

Employee Responsibilities

AU has established procedures for requesting and providing religious accommodations. Employees seeking accommodations for sincerely held religious beliefs should:

• Notify management of their need for a religious accommodation as soon as possible.
• Download and complete the Religious Accommodation Request Form and submit to auhr_employee_relations@augusta.edu. Or, fax the information to (706) 721-1875. 
• Upon receipt of the request, contact will be made with the employee and management to engage in the “interactive process” to determine if there is an appropriate accommodation.

Religious Accommodation Form

An employee may be asked to submit additional documentation related to the doctrines and beliefs of their religious practice to support their request. We will work diligently to provide a response within 14 business days after receipt of the request. Please note that extenuating circumstances may extend the timeframe beyond the 14-day period. A determination will be provided in writing.
