Instructor Application

Kids University, hosted by the College of Education and Human Development, is a non-profit summer program that offers low-cost and high-quality educational activities on the Summerville Campus to serve approximately 100 K-8 children, ages 5 to 14, in our local communities.

The instructor application period will start on October 15 of every year and will close when the position is filled. The pay rate is $30 per hour.

Applicant Qualification

You must be a professional in your field or a graduate student at the College of Education and Human Development to be eligible to apply for this position. We are looking for instructors who demonstrate passion and ability to teach the following areas:

  1. Academics: science, social studies, language arts, math, technology, etc.
  2. Health: nutrition, physical activity, physical/mental health, hygiene, social skills, injury prevention, safety, etc.
  3. Humanities: arts, music, culture, and performing arts, etc.
  4. Work-based skills development: construction, finance, industrial business, governmental jobs, etc.

 

Scoring Rubric and Interview

We will select the top three highest-scoring applications in each area for interviews based on the following rubric.

  5-4 Exemplary 3-2 Satisfactory 1-0 Unacceptable Score

Applicant’s qualification and teaching experience

Strong qualifications and extensive teaching experience. Good qualifications and relevant teaching experience. Inadequate qualifications and limited teaching experience              

Applicant’s proposed course title, description, and outline for K-8 children.

Engaging, meaningful, and challenging educational activities for K-8 children. Appropriate educational activities for K-8 children during the summer. Inappropriate course content for K-8 children during the summer.  

Applicant’s ability to differentiate educational activities for K-8

Exceptional ability to differentiate educational activities for K-8. Adequate ability to differentiate educational activities for K-8. Inadequate ability to differentiate educational activities for K-8.  
Total Score ( Out of 15)  

Each class has one instructor, and one teaching assistant. The instructor's pay is $30 per hour. We welcome K-12 educators, professionals, and university faculty to apply for the position, and we will work with your availability. 

Passing a background check is required prior to employment at Augusta University.

Declaration 

Kids University is a self-funded program and does not receive funding from the university. Thus, the employment of instructors at Kids University is not guaranteed. We plan to accept 6 to 9 top applications in the first round. Based on enrollment, we will then make adjustments. If enrollment is low, we won’t be able to run the program or have to cut accepted applications. If enrollment is high, we will consider applications that are not accepted in the first round.
