Academic Affairs & Advanced Education Overview

The Office of Academic Affairs & Advanced Education supports the educational mission of the Dental College of Georgia by providing leadership, oversight, and coordination of academic programs, curriculum, assessment, and advanced education initiatives. The office works collaboratively with faculty, program directors, and college leadership to ensure that educational programs are rigorous, student-centered, and aligned with accreditation standards, institutional policies, and best practices in dental education.

AAAE is responsible for guiding curriculum development and review, promoting continuous quality improvement, and supporting faculty in teaching, assessment, and educational innovation. The office also facilitates communication across departments and programs, monitors academic progress, and assists in maintaining compliance with Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA) standards.

For students, AAAE serves as a resource for academic advising, policy clarification, and support related to curriculum requirements, academic standing, and educational planning. Students may engage with the office regarding course scheduling, academic concerns, petitions or exceptions, and pathways to advanced education opportunities. AAAE works to support student success by fostering clear communication, fair processes, and alignment between educational expectations and student learning experiences. Through these efforts, Academic Affairs & Advanced Education helps ensure that DCG graduates are well-prepared for professional practice, lifelong learning, and leadership in oral health care.

Advanced education programs are designed to provide a superior level of clinical skill with an in-depth knowledge of the biological and clinical sciences applicable to the discipline. Upon successful completion of an advanced education program the candidate receives a certificate and is eligible for examination by the appropriate Board. Accreditation Information

Endodontics, oral and maxillofacial surgery, orthodontics and dentofacial orthopedics, pediatric dentistry, periodontics, prosthodontics, and the advanced education in general dentistry program, are accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation and have been granted the accreditation status of “approval without reporting requirements”. The commission is a specialized accrediting body recognized by the United States Department of Education. The Dental College of Georgia at Augusta University does not offer a two-year Advanced Standing program for dentists with a dental degree from outside the United States.
