The advanced education program is designed to provide a superior level of clinical skill with an in-depth knowledge of the biological and clinical sciences applicable to the discipline. Upon successful completion of an advanced education program the candidate receives a certificate and is eligible for examination by the appropriate Board.
Program fees may be charged for graduates of foreign dental schools if an individual program accepts applicants with foreign dental degrees. In general, there is no tuition for students with US and Canadian dental degrees but there may be associated program fees.
Stipends may be available for some programs and are determined annually depending upon availability of funds.
Most Augusta University advanced education programs require that applicants be graduates of dental schools accredited by the American Dental Association (ADA) Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA). The Prosthodontic, Periodontic, and Endodontic programs currently consider applicants with foreign dental degrees.
Masters and PhD. programs in oral biology are available and are designed for individuals who desire to pursue a career in dental research or education. These programs can be pursued independently or concurrently with an advanced education program. Graduate students must enroll in The Graduate School and pay graduate school tuition.
Endodontics, oral and maxillofacial surgery, orthodontics and dentofacial orthopedics, pediatric dentistry, periodontics, prosthodontics, and the advanced education in general dentistry program, are accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation and have been granted the accreditation status of “approval without reporting requirements”. The commission is a specialized accrediting body recognized by the United States Department of Education. The Dental College of Georgia at Augusta University does not offer a two-year Advanced Standing program for dentists with a dental degree from outside the United States.
