Mr. Westafer began classical guitar study with Robert Guthrie and holds a Bachelor of Music degree in classical guitar performance from the University of North Carolina School of the Arts (formerly North Carolina School of the Arts), where he was a student of Andres Segovia protege Jesus Silva. After inaugurating the classical guitar program at UNC-Chapel Hill and teaching there for two years, Mr. Westafer began a 38-year career as a high school teacher, concurrently with which he continued to teach privately and at Augusta College (now Augusta University), where he initiated the classical guitar curriculum in 1995. Mr. Westafer has performed at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts (formerly the North Carolina School of the Arts), UNC-Chapel Hill, Academia Musicale Chigiana (Siena, Italy), Elon University, Augusta College, and venues under the aegis of the Georgia Council for the Arts.
