Internal Medicine Residency Program – Savannah Campus
The St. Joseph's/Candler Internal Medicine Residency Program, developed in partnership with the Medical College of Georgia, is built around a straightforward goal: graduate physicians who are confident, capable, and ready to meet a wide range of clinical needs from day one of independent practice.
The curriculum is balanced across inpatient and outpatient settings, with a strong emphasis on ambulatory medicine, continuity of care, and chronic disease management.
Residents develop genuine expertise in preventative care and longitudinal patient
relationships through a robust continuity clinic model, while concurrently building
the clinical skills needed to succeed as a hospitalist or outpatient internal medicine
physician in a community practice setting.

How we prepare you for a wide range of career paths
The program takes a practical, community-focused approach to physician training. Residents develop expertise in caring for diverse populations, gain a working understanding of the social and behavioral factors that shape health outcomes, and engage in meaningful quality improvement work throughout their training.
Population health and preventative care are woven into the curriculum rather than treated as electives. Team-based care is emphasized at every level, reflecting the reality that the best medicine happens when the entire care team works together.
Alongside a strong clinical foundation, residents have access to robust research infrastructure, expert mentorship, and an academic culture that supports scholarly growth from the start of training.
Graduates of the St. Joseph's/Candler Internal Medicine Residency receive a diploma from the Medical College of Georgia, one of the oldest and most prestigious graduate medical programs in the country, and are well prepared to pursue a wide range of career paths.
