Augusta University at the Medical College of Georgia  

Augusta University (AU) is a state-sponsored health university in Georgia. In addition to various colleges and schools, the university enterprise includes Augusta University Medical Center, the Children's Hospital of Georgia, numerous outpatient clinics, classrooms, laboratories, residence halls, a student center, a wellness center, and a medical education library. Founded in 1828, Augusta University is home to the Medical College of Georgia, the 13th-oldest continuously operating medical school in the United States, and the third oldest in Southeast.

Department of Psychiatry &Health Behavior Outpatient Services

The Medical College of Georgia Department of Psychiatry and Health Behavior is committed to an integrated approach to understanding and treating mental health disorders through research, education and patient care. Our faculty experts contribute to the knowledge and advancing future care through research in areas including depression, suicide, insomnia, schizophrenia, addiction, children’s mental health, forensic psychology and more.

East Central Georgia Regional Hospital

East Central Georgia Regional Hospital (ECRH) is a state, non-profit, psychiatric hospital. It is among the largest psychiatric hospitals in the state of Georgia. ECRH serves consumers with disabilities including: mental illnesses, substance abuse, and intellectual disability. The Augusta campus of ECRH consists of four primary inpatient units, including Adult Mental Health, General Mental Health, and Forensics. The Adult Mental Health unit is a short-term, crisis-stabilization unit for both adult males and females. The General Mental Health Unit provides long-term psychiatric care for individuals with treatment-resistant conditions.  The Forensic unit serves patients who are determined to be Incompetent to Stand Trial or Not Guilty by Reason of Insanity. Each unit has an interdisciplinary team that provides assessments, psychotropic treatments, group therapies, and discharge planning.

Employee-Faculty Assistance Program

AU/MCG Employee-Faculty Assistance Program (EFAP) provides an on-campus assessment and counseling program for employees, faculty, house staff/residents and interns, graduate students, and immediate family members. EFAP focuses on work-related and/or personal presenting concerns. Assessments and short-term therapy are available, at no cost to the employee. For those requiring extended counseling or more specialized therapy, the program can arrange continuing care by an appropriate local practitioner or agency. EFAP staff are also available to consult with supervisors on how to better recognize and work with employees who are experiencing difficulties.

Student Counseling & Psychological Services

AU Student Counseling and Psychological Services Augusta University Student Counseling and Psychological Services (SCAPS) provides mental health services for all currently enrolled AU students in a safe and inclusive environment. SCAPS operates within a focused and brief model of treatment, providing a stepped care approach which includes individual and group counseling, workshops, and referrals to off campus resources. SCAPS psychologists and counselors work with a diverse student population to address a wide range of mental health issues of varying severity. Services also include crisis intervention, consultation to support faculty in working with students in distress, and outreach to the entire university community.
