Pediatric Critical Care Medicine Fellowship Program

The Pediatric Critical Care Medicine (PCCM) Fellowship at the Medical College of Georgia at Augusta University provides a broad, multidisciplinary educational program developed to train pediatricians to become successful and competent critical care clinicians, educators, and researchers.

The Pediatric Critical Care Fellowship is an ACGME accredited three-year program for board eligible/certified physicians in Pediatrics or Medicine-Pediatrics. The program is accredited for 3 PICU fellows and matches one trainee per year.

OUR PROGRAM HAS A DUAL FOCUS

  • To provide the clinical exposure and opportunities to support acquiring and refining expertise in managing critically ill children in a multidisciplinary pediatric critical care unit.
  • To provide significant exposure and training in basic science, clinical and/or translational research that serves as the foundation for an independent research career and fosters intellectual curiosity and creativity.

Clinical & Research Experience

CLINICAL EXPERIENCE

All of the program’s clinical activities are housed in the Children’s Hospital of Georgia at AU which is a 149-bed, 220,000-square-foot facility that has a dedicated 14 bed combined medical-surgical PICU and cardiovascular ICU, along with an additional 6 bed pediatric intermediate care unit.

RESEARCH EXPERIENCE

The research component draws upon already existing programs at AU such as the Pediatric Subspecialty Fellows’ Clinical Research Design Course and may offer protected support for those interested in pursuing a Certificate in Clinical and Translational Science Program or Masters in Public Health.

Extensive options for basic science, translational, or clinical research experiences are available through collaboration with the broad spectrum of lab-based and clinical scientists at Augusta University, including through the Georgia Prevention Institute (GPI) and the Vascular Biology Center.
