Dr. Andrea Prosser

Andrea Prosser, MD

Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology 
 


Dr. Andrea Prosser graduated summa cum laude from the University of Georgia with a Bachelor of Sciences in Biology. Afterwards, she completed her medical school training at the Medical College of Georgia and received multiple awards including Alpha Omega Alpha honors. She stayed in Augusta to complete her ophthalmology residency at Georgia Health Sciences University. During her residency she was involved in research identifying disease markers for glaucoma. She was also named chief resident during her senior year.

After finishing her residency she practiced in our department for one year and then worked as a pediatric ophthalmology hospitalist in the midwest for two years. She returned to our department in the Summer of 2015 where she provides comprehensive eye care for children. This includes diagnosis and management of cataracts, glaucoma, refractive error, strabismus, diseases of the anterior segment, and diabetic retinopathy screening. She performs cataract surgery, laser procedures, glaucoma surgery, and strabismus surgery.


Clinical Arena

Summary: A number of ocular conditions are unique or present in unique ways in children. The pediatric ophthalmologist has received specialized training in the recognition of these problems.

Care areas: Glasses, cataracts, routine eye examinations, glaucoma screening and treatment, diabetic eye examination, and dry eyes.

Key symptoms: Blurry vision, ocular dryness, tearing, itching, and floaters.
