NRP Skills Training Course & Online Exam

Read Below Before Registering
Ensure you use a valid Email address and phone number when paying for course.

NRP Course Description

The Neonatal Resuscitation Program™ is an educational program that introduces the concepts and basic skills of neonatal resuscitation. This course has been designed to teach an evidence-based approach to resuscitation of the newborn. The causes, prevention, and management of mild to severe neonatal asphyxia are carefully explained so that health professionals may develop optimal knowledge and skill in resuscitation. Completion of the program does not imply that an individual has the competence to perform neonatal resuscitation.  A comprehensive instructional textbook, which includes an interactive multi-media DVD-ROM, forms the basic educational component of the program

 NRP Online Examination

The online examination replaces the written test. Providers will need to self-study the NRP Textbook, and complete the online examination prior to attending a course. Up to 9 hours of Continuing Education Credit will be offered for the examination for physicians, nurses, respiratory therapists, and emergency medical service professionals.

After online testing is complete, students receive a printout indicating which lessons have been successfully completed and the date of completion. The student will then present the printout within 30 days to the instructor for verification of completion. If the leaner fails one or more lessons on the online test, that lesson(s) may be retaken one time within 14 days. If a learner fails any lesson 2 or more times no printout is prepared and the learner must repay and must retake the entire exam.

Overview

  • The new NRP course format now requires learners to study the Textbook of Neonatal Resuscitation, and take the online examination before attending an NRP course.
  • This test covers the material in Lessons 1 through 9 the Textbook of Neonatal Resuscitation. Learners who are successful in completing the lesson reviews in the textbook should not find the exam difficult.

The pre-evaluation:

  • You should not begin the examination without having an instructor identified. If you complete the exam before you identify an instructor for hands-on skills and you are unable to locate a course within 30 days, you will need to retake the exam at your expense.

Taking the exam

  • The online test is arranged by lesson, in the same order as in the textbook.
  • You may skip questions and come back to them.
  • You may change your answers on any question until you submit the lesson for grading.
  • You may stop testing after a lesson, and resume testing later.
  • If you do not attain a passing score (80%) for a lesson, you may retake that section immediately, or on a different day, within 14 days of the original testing date. After 14 days, the online testing becomes invalid and requires payment to begin again.
  • When you pass a lesson, you will see any questions that you missed in the lesson. You can print this page if you want to discuss this question with your instructor or review it later. This is your only opportunity to see or print your missed questions.
  • You may retake each lesson once and still pass.
  • All students taking NRP with a Augusta University instructor must complete all lessons 1 through 9.
  • The NRP Online Examination only requires lessons 1 through 4 and 9 for completion.  Because you will need to take lessons 5-8, you must take them before you complete lesson 9. If you complete lesson 9 before lessons 5-8, the exam will pass you and you will no longer be able to take these lessons.
  • Neither the Administrator or HealthStream can reopen a completed exam after submission, nor can they supply new access to learners who did not complete the appropriate lessons in order.
  • After completing the examination, you will receive an exam verification form. Bring this with you to the NRP course and give to your instructor. If you cannot produce an exam verification form, you cannot attend the course.

*If you do not finish testing or cannot pass the test prior to the course start time, you may not attend the course.

Returning to the exam:

If you need to exit the exam and return during your 14 day window, you simply will:

  • Return to the url you used to access the exam
  • Enter the userid and password that you created or were assigned
  • Click on the My Learning tab
  • Click on Neonatal Resuscitation Program™ Online Examination, 6th Edition and resume where you left off

If you completed the exam and need to get a copy of your exam verification form.

  • Return to the url you used to access the exam
  • Enter the userid and password that you created or were assigned
  • Click on the My Transcript tab
  • Click on View Certificate and select Print
  • Getting your exam verification form

After completing the examination, you will receive an exam verification form. Bring this with you to the NRP course and give to your instructor. If you cannot produce an exam verification form, you cannot attend the course.

After Completing the Exam

After completing the examination, you will receive an exam verification form. Bring this with you to the NRP course and give to your instructor. If you cannot produce an exam verification form, you cannot attend the course.

To obtain Continuing Education Credit, you must enter your licensure information in your HealthStream record. To enter this information:

  • Click on the My profile tab
  • Click on Manage Discipline and License Information
  • Click on Add Discipline/License and enter any pertinent information

*If you have completed the exam and did not enter your licensure information beforehand, you may add this information later.

The text facilitates the self-study to help students prepare for the mandatory online examination that replaces the traditional written test. It also complements the simulations and case-based scenarios at the heart of the new NRP.

The NRP Textbook features 9 extensively revised lessons, updated Key Points sections, case scenarios for each major resuscitation technique, color photos, new Integrated Skills Station (replacing the Megacode) and other performance checklists, and much more.

The text is packaged with an all-new companion DVD-ROM (for use on a Mac or PC) that brings higher levels of interactivity and involvement to the learning process. Multi-decision point scenarios enable the student to direct the course of treatment simulations. Randomly generated clinical problems and outcomes offer varied learning challenges.

The DVD-ROM also includes dynamic video footage of actual resuscitations, laryngoscopic camera footage, and animated 3-D demonstrations. A DVD-based presentation builder lets instructors enrich classroom and other presentations with high-impact video clips.
