Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery
The Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery residency program is a fully accredited, four-year program integrated in the Dental College of Georgia at Augusta University and the AU Medical Center.
wo residents are accepted through the match program each academic year. The program is designed to provide the resident with the opportunity for sufficient didactic and clinical education to meet the requirements for certification by the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, and to become a knowledgeable and competent practitioner. Four board-certified Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons comprise the in-house faculty. The residency is also supported by four, active part-time and volunteer faculty. Many of the faculty members have distinguished themselves with international reputations for their subspecialty clinical activities.

Patient Care
Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons (OMFS) are the surgical specialists of the dental profession. Our doctors practice the full scope of the specialty. Our OMFS team has specialized knowledge in pain management and each doctor is trained to administer general and local anesthesia and IV-sedation, allowing the Augusta University OMFS Clinic to maximize patient comfort and safety in an office setting.
The Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery provides the highest standard of surgical care for patients with benign and malignant tumors of the head and neck region, soft and hard tissue trauma of the oral and maxillofacial region, cleft and craniofacial deformities, facial cosmetic surgery, and basic oral surgical procedures including removal of wisdom teeth and the placement of implants.
In addition to providing comprehensive, surgically-based clinical and didactic education, the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery is committed to patient care, research and community service. Through continuing education programs such as the Intravenous Conscious Sedation Course, the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery provides advanced knowledge to local, national and international communities.
