Dr. Sifuentes joined the Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology at Augusta University
in July 2014. He is a graduate of the University of Illinois at Chicago College of
Medicine. He completed his internal medicine residency at Rush University Medical
Center in Chicago, Illinois. Following completion of his gastroenterology clinical
research fellowship at North Shore University Health System, he went on to complete
his gastroenterology and hepatology fellowship at Augusta University. Dr. Sifuentes
is the Interim Chief and Co-Director of the DHC, Director of IBD, Medical Director
of Endoscopy and Fellowship Program Director as of April 2020.
Dr. Sifuentes is an expert inflammatory bowel disease researcher and clinician. He
maintains an active IBD practice and is on the cutting edge of the latest treatment
strategies and therapies. In addition to providing comprehensive care, special attention
is dedicated to colon cancer prevention, evaluation and management of nutritional
issues and health maintenance interventions.
He is a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society, American Gastroenterological
Association, American College of Gastroenterology, American College of Physicians
and the Crohn's & Colitis Foundation of America. He is fluent in Spanish and board
certified in internal medicine and gastroenterology.
