Access issues are often not discovered until the first day of a rotation. Testing your access before your start date allows sufficient time to resolve any problems and helps prevent delays in your clinical activities.
If you receive the message: "User Authentication Blocked" your account is active, but an inactivity block has been applied because the account has not been used for an extended period.
Contact the Help Desk to request removal of the inactivity block.
How long does it take to fix?
In most cases:
If you receive the message: "Your account has been locked" your access has been disabled rather than simply blocked for inactivity.
Common reasons include:
EPIC access is tied to approved rotation records.
The approved rotation tells the system:
Example
If you are scheduled for a rotation: 11/9/2026 - 11/29/2026 the approved rotation record must reflect dates that include that time period. If no approved rotation exists for those dates, your access may be disabled even if you previously had access.
Many students do. Students assigned a year-long EPIC access rotation have continuous access throughout the academic year.
Example
A year-long access assignment may cover: 6/29/2026 - 6/30/2027 students with this type of access generally remain active throughout the year regardless of individual rotation entries because the year-long assignment continuously supports their access.
If you do not have a year-long access assignment, your EPIC access is controlled by the individual approved rotations entered in the system. The start and end dates of those rotations determine when your access is activated and when it expires.
You should have access to all three of the following:
If a job context is missing, an inactivity block may have been placed on that specific job context template due to lack of use.
Contact the Help Desk and request reactivation of the missing job context.
Job context template reactivation is handled by EPIC Security and may take up to 48 hours.
Not usually.
If EPIC does not display the Job dropdown menu and instead goes directly to the Type of Supervision screen, it typically means only one job context is active.
One or more of your other job contexts may have an inactivity block applied.
Contact the Help Desk and request that all required student job contexts be reviewed and reactivated if necessary.
As soon as possible and preferably at least several business days before your next rotation begins.
This provides time to resolve:
before your first clinical day.

If all items above are true, your EPIC access is likely ready for your upcoming rotation.
