I graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics from Yarmouk university in Jordan in 1987. I received a Master of Science in Mathematics from the same university in 1989. I also have a Master of Science in business administration from the Hull College of Business from GRU in May 2014 (Now Augusta University). I taught at different universities in different countries like Jordan (Jordan University of Science and Technology), United Arab Emirates (UAE University), and the United States of America (Augusta University). I moved with my family to the states in 2005 and we all received our American citizenship in 2009. When my students ask me where I am from, I tell them I was born in Palestine, I was brought up in Kuwait, I pursued my education in Jordan, and I worked in Kuwait, Amman, and U.A.E. then moved to the U.S., so I find it absolutely fair to say that the Whole World is my country and I've been moving among its different states.
I have been teaching math. courses since 1990 between Calculus I, Calculus II, Linear Algebra, Statistics, College Algebra, and Precalculus. I believe that teaching concepts of the topics covered in the math. courses is as important as teaching procedures or how to solve certain math problems. Understanding concepts will enable students to think, analyze, and figure out the procedure to work on any problem. While teaching them only procedures will limit their ability of critical thinking. Any simple change or twist in a problem will make them unable to find the solution, simply because they do not understand the concept behind it. So a good start of any course would be: “We are here to learn concepts not only procedures”.
