Bio

Tuan Anh Phan is an Assistant Professor of Mathematics at Augusta University, whose research spans stochastic modeling, mathematical biology, and data science applications to cancer, microbiome, and cardiac physiology.

Education

  • Ph.D., Mathematics, General New Mexico State University, 2020

  • MS, Mathematics, General New Mexico State University, 2015

Courses Taught Most Recent Academic Year

  • MATH 2011

    Calculus & Analy. Geometry I

Teaching Interests

I am interested in teaching a broad range of courses in calculus, differential equations, probability, mathematical modeling, and data science, especially those connected to biological and medical applications. I emphasize project-based learning where students work with realistic data sets and communicate results clearly. I also actively explore the use of AI tools to help students engage with challenging materials more effectively and develop responsible, modern quantative skills.

Scholarship

Selected Recent Publications

  • Resilience of a stochastic generalized Lotka Volterra model for microbiome studies, 2025
    Journal Article, Academic Journal
  • Modeling the effects of thin filament near-neighbor cooperative interactions in mammalian myocardium, 2025
    Journal Article, Academic Journal

Research Interests

My research focuses on applied mathematics and stochastic analysis, using differential equations, stochastic differential equations, and machine learning techniques to study complex biological and medical systems. Current on-going projects including modeling cancer growth and immunotherapy, bacteriophage dynamics, and cooperative mechanisms in cardiac and skeletal muscles. I am also interested in leveraging data-driven and AI-assisted computational methods to connect mechanistic models with experimental and clinical data.
