Dr. Dement is a graduate of the Medical College of Georgia. She completed her Emergency Medicine residency at the Medical College of Georgia in 1997. Following residency, she worked at University Hospital as an Emergency Department attending. After working in community practice for 11 years, she joined the faculty in the Department of Emergency Medicine at the Medical College of Georgia in 2009 to serve in a clinician educator role. She has enjoyed an active role teaching problem based learning and physical diagnosis at the Medical School to first and second year medical students since 2010, and has received Outstanding Educator awards for undergraduate education.
She has served as Director of the Chest Pain Center and a member of the Chest Pain Center Committee since 2012. She has participated as ringside physician for both amateur and professional boxing, kickboxing, and MMA bouts. She has also served as the team physician for the kickboxing team representing the United States in Dublin, Ireland in 2011 and again in Sao Paolo, Brazil in 2013 at the World Association of Kickboxing Organizations (WAKO).
She strives to focus on the clinical education of residents and is proud to have been chosen to receive the Clinical Educator Award from the residency on multiple occasions.
