Bio
Janice Williams Whiting is a professor of painting, drawing and color theory at Augusta University where she has been teaching since 1981. In addition to teaching in the classroom, Janice has led numerous student trips throughout Italy.
Janice received her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the University of Georgia and her Masters of Fine Arts degree from Indiana State University. Her artwork explores art history, the human form, gender sexuality stereotypes, spirituality, and architectural spaces. Janice often takes an image through the different media of oil, pastel, and gouache (opaque watercolor) and into print media. Currently Janice's work is owned by the Morris Museum of Art, the Takarazuka Mayor’s Collection (Takarazuka, Japan), as well as many private collections. Her work has been exhibited in museums such as the Mint Museum in Charlotte, the Institute of Contemporary Arts (Boston), the Cleveland Museum of Art, the New York Historical Society, the Philbrook Museum of Art, the Columbus Museum of Art (Ohio), the Tennessee State Museum, the San Jose Museum of Art, the Honolulu Academy of Arts, the Mary Pauline Gallery (Augusta, Georgia), the Firehouse Gallery (Louisville, Georgia) and in the Hudgens Center for the Arts in Atlanta.
Janice's other honors include: receiving the Augusta State University Outstanding Faculty Award, serving as a visiting artist at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts in Philadelphia and serving as an artist-in-residence in Canada on three different occasions.
