Bio
Dr. Alicia Elam is a pharmacist and tenured Associate Professor of Pharmacology in the College of Allied Health Sciences at Augusta University.
She serves as the Pharmacology Course Director and the Director of Admissions for the Physician Assistant Program at Augusta University.
Passionate about student mentorship, she enjoys guiding aspiring professionals pursuing graduate degrees in medicine, pharmacy, physician assistant studies, and other allied health sciences. She especially cherishes mentoring underrepresented minority students as well as first-generation college students.
With over 30 years of experience in pharmacology, Dr. Elam has also served as a Lieutenant and Medical Service Corps Officer in the U.S. Navy.
She is a proud member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., Zeta Xi Omega Chapter, and The Augusta (GA) Chapter of The Links, Inc.

Teaching Interests
My teaching interests focus on helping future healthcare professionals build a strong foundation in pharmacology while developing the critical-thinking skills essential for sound clinical decision-making. I prioritize creating pathways for students with varied experiences and access to academic preparation, ensuring they feel supported and empowered to succeed. I am also committed to fostering engaging, inclusive learning environments that integrate evidence-based practice, active learning, and professional identity development.

Research Interests
My research interests center on medication safety, clinical decision-making, and optimizing pharmacologic therapy. I am particularly interested in opioid stewardship, GLP-1 receptor agonists, and emerging drug-therapy trends that influence patient outcomes. I also engage in collaborative, student-centered scholarship that strengthens evidence-based practice in healthcare.
