External Faculty Awards

Supporting Faculty Excellence Through Recognition

This page serves as a centralized resource for linking to external faculty award opportunities. It is intended to support faculty members in identifying and pursuing recognition for their academic, research, teaching, and service achievements.

Governor's Teaching Fellows Program

We are pleased to announce the call for applications for the prestigious Governor's Teaching Fellows Program will open each year in October. This program offers an exceptional opportunity for faculty members to enhance their teaching practices, collaborate with peers across the state, and contribute to the advancement of undergraduate education. The program is offered through the Louise McBee Institute of Higher Education at the University of Georgia.

Academic Year

Over the course of the academic year, a cohort of Fellows attend six unique three-day workshops while also undertaking a course design/redesign project. Fellows engage in a course design/redesign or instructional improvement project. Apply for Academic Year .

May Symposium

Fellows attend an intense one-week seminar on the University of Georgia campus. Selected fellows will receive hotel accommodations and meals during the program. Apply for May Symposium.

Eligibility

  • Open to full-time faculty members from any rank
  • Preference will be given to those teaching undergraduate students

Augusta University Selection Process

  1. The Governor Teaching Fellows Program guidelines stipulates that no more than two fellows from the same institution may participate simultaneously. Therefore, the university will limit the finalists submitted for consideration to two for the Academic Year Program, and one for the May Program.
  2. Applicants will undergo an internal selection process, for review by the Provost and the President for letters of support. Internal applicant finalists will move forward to the formal organizers of the Governor’s Teaching Fellows for final review and selection.

To apply, complete the applications by November 1 and submit your portfolio based on the GTF program requirements.

Selection Criteria and Portfolio Requirements

Among others, fellows will be selected based on:

  1. Commitment to undergraduate teaching - e.g., how they have improved their teaching practices and how they would like to enhance their teaching and professional development.
  2. Academic Leadership - e.g., their experience in leading initiatives, mentoring faculty or students, developing programs, or contributing to institutional change.
  3. Current CV – Outlining teaching experience, academic achievements, and contributions to education.
  4. Portfolio Packet - For a list of portfolio and application materials, visit the GTF website:  GTF Program Description | Institute of Higher Education
